International May Day Project

The president of the Sydney branch of the ASSLH, Greg Patmore, has received an interesting letter from Roger Absalom, International Secretary of the Society for the Study of Labour History in Sheffield, U.K. referring to the setting up of an archival, bibliographical and iconographical data bank on the first May Day of the workers’ movement in various countries.

The project is being co-ordinated by the Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini in Milan. There will be an international conference and exhibition in Milan in 1990 and an international newsletter is being circulated. Further details about the newsletter can be obtained from

The ASSLH is considering participation. But resources and personnel are overstretched. Are there any volunteers?
