Legacies of British Slavery and Labour History

The third instalment of our seminar series, Labour History: Looking ahead After 60 Years, was held on 16 May 2022. It featured Professor Jane Lydon and Dr Jeremy Martens, both from the University of Western Australia, who spoke on the topic of “The Legacies of British Slavery and Labour History”. 

Jeremy is the author of Empire and Asian Migration: Sovereignty, Immigration Restriction and Protest in the British Settler Colonies, 1888–1907 (UWAP 2018).Jane’s most recent book is No Slavery in a Free Land? Anti-Slavery and Australia, 1780–1900 (Routledge 2021).
