Sydney Branch Confronts the Spooks: Hummer Displays Prudence

As many readers would be aware, ASIO is in the middle of trying to free itself of the Freedom of Information legislation contained in the Archives Act of 1983. A Joint Parliamentary Committee has been established. Concerned about the implications of ASIO’s move, the Sydney branch sent a submission to this Committee. It was Hummer’s intention to publish this letter. However it transpires that our humble little letter is now part of National Security and to republish it could be naughty, or silly, or both. So we won’t. Later on in the year we intended to have Mr Laurie Aarons, FOI user extraordinaire, address our branch.
