7th Marxist Summer School, January 1984

Organisers of the recent Marxist summer school held at the Merewelher Building at Sydney University are to be congralulated on including a ‘History’ strand amongst their smorgasbord of issues relevant to the contemporary Australian left. In this area papers included, Drew Cottle on Mr Menzies’s Brisbane Line, Andrew Moore on the Pastoral Workers’ Industrial Union, Bill Leslie on the A.C.T.U., Alan Knight on Revesby Workers Club, Dianne Fieldes on the Whitlam Government and Rick Kuhn on Curtin, Chifley and the Union Movement. A special showing of ‘For Love Or Money,’ with panel discussion, was also arranged. Though attendances were not always vast, there was often spirited and stimulating discussion and it is to be hoped that the practice of including a labour history strand will be continued.
